Dates: The Good, Bad & Cheesy

My friends and I were recently discussing bad dates.  Here’s mine: Met guy riding his bike across college campus. He asks me out. I agree and upon his request, I drive (ugh, should’ve been a red flag, I know). Anyway, I pick guy up from “his place,” and we go to a restaurant of his choice. During dinner, I notice he knows all the restaurant staff personally. Turns out, he works there and took me there to get his employee discount! (Here’s the kicker) He then reveals the real reason I needed to drive... (Brace yourself) was because he was... in-between-places-and-living-in-his-car. Yes, he was homeless. I was mortified, but I guess not as much as he was. 15 years later, I guess I feel bad for the guy. Struggling student just trying to take a young girl to dinner. With my luck, he’s now a millionaire, living what could’ve been my life.  lol.

We have a running joke that my girlfriend absolutely hates picnic dates.  A guy took her to the park, laid out a blanket, a picnic basket with food he’d personally prepared and thought they’d enjoy a nice first date, getting to know each other on the grass under the sun. Cute, right? SHE was mortified! It was “cheesy,” she said!  Our guy friend says most guys would assume that was a great idea for a first date. It’s out of the box, creative and shows effort. I agreed. I think the only reason she hated it was because she wasn’t into the guy. For me, if I really like a guy, he could take me on the cheesiest, most cornballish date imaginable, and I’d love it. I might hate the date, but I’d love the time with him. She rolled her eyes. LOL!

So, two questions...

  1. What are your best and most horrific dates?

  2. If you’re really into the guy, does question #1 really matter???
